How to increase the survival rate of grafted fruit treesFruit tree grafting is generally divided into spring grafting and summer grafting. In spring, branch grafting is mostly used, and the grafting methods are mostly cleft grafting, cut grafting, plug grafting, etc., while summer grafting is mostly bud grafting. To improve the survival rate of grafting, you need to pay attention to the following 5 points: 1. Master the grafting time If the grafting is too early, the tree sap has not flowed, the leaf buds of the scion have not sprouted, and it is difficult for the graft to survive. If the grafting is too late, the branches have grown leaves, the water evaporates a lot, and the graft is also difficult to survive. Spring grafting usually takes place around the Spring Equinox, while summer grafting usually takes place from late July to late August. 2. Choose the right rootstock and scion The rootstock should be selected from varieties with relatively strong growth, well-developed roots and strong disease resistance. In addition, it should be selected with better affinity, so that the survival rate can be improved. It is best to choose a scion for grafting on a branch with new buds. If there are no new ones, then choose a scion with faint buds and that is mature. 3. Avoid rainy and windy weather Listen to the weather forecast in time and choose a sunny day with a relatively high temperature for grafting. Generally, it is best if there is no heavy rain 3 to 5 days after grafting. 4. Scion sealing wax In order to reduce the evaporation of moisture in the scion, the scion should be sealed with wax. The method is to melt the industrial paraffin wax, and when the wax temperature reaches 95℃~102℃, quickly dip one end of the cut scion branch in the wax liquid, and then quickly dip the other end. 5. Grafting should be done quickly and the binding strips should be tied tightly It is best to use the branches as soon as they are cut. If the branches are not used up on the same day, it is best to put them in a plastic bag and place them in a cool and humid place. The knife used for grafting should be sharp, the peeling surface should be flat, and the grafting should be done in time. Over time, it is easy to dehydrate and oxidize, which will affect the survival rate of the grafting. |
