When is the survival rate of rose cuttings high (how to make rose cuttings survive easily)

Rose has a certain degree of cold resistance, and the optimum temperature for its growth is between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. When the temperature exceeds 30 degrees Celsius in summer, the plant enters a slow growth stage; when the temperature is below 0 degrees Celsius in winter, the plant enters a dormant stage.

According to its growth characteristics, as long as the temperature reaches above 15 degrees Celsius, cutting propagation can be carried out all year round, but the survival rate of cuttings in spring March-April is highest.

Although we already know that the survival rate of cuttings is high in spring March and April, how do we carry out cutting propagation ?

1. Choose substantial branches:

There are many branches on the rose plant, and the rooting ability of each branch is different. If you choose weak, diseased, or aging branches as cuttings, they will not have a high regeneration ability, thus reducing the survival rate of cutting propagation.

Therefore, it is recommended to cut healthy and full branches as cuttings, which can bring higher regeneration ability.

Kind tips

The branches that have just been cut cannot be inserted into the soil immediately. They need to be pruned again to maintain their original regeneration ability.

How to do secondary pruning?

First, choose semi-lignified branches, and control the length to about 9 cm.

Second, only the two leaves at the top of the branch can be retained to reduce nutrient consumption.

Third, the base of the branches is pruned into an oblique shape to promote water absorption.

2. Choose high-quality soil:

Roses are highly adaptable and do not have high requirements for soil, as long as the soil is loose and breathable and the pH value is not higher than 7.

If alkaline or sticky soil is used, it will hinder the normal breathing ability of the branches, and rot and black stems will occur over time, thereby reducing the survival rate of reproduction. Therefore, it is recommended to choose soil with strong drainage and air permeability.

Kind tips

Because the branches have poor breathing and water absorption capacity before they take root, you can use ordinary plain sand for cuttings. If you want to take root quickly, it is recommended to use a mixture of 3 parts leaf mold and 2 parts coarse sand.

In addition, brand new soil will also have residual insect eggs. Before cutting, place it under the sun for 48 hours, and use plastic film to cover and heat it during this period.

3. Choose a breathable flower pot:

Home cutting propagation is usually done indoors, and requires a flower pot filled with soil.

If you choose a flower pot with poor air permeability and weak drainage, the soil's drainage and air permeability will be reduced, and ultimately the water will not be drained in time, and the branches will not be able to breathe normally.

Therefore, it is recommended to use professional seedling pots for cuttings, or disposable cups with manual holes.

4. Maintenance to promote rooting:

The depth of the rose branches inserted into the soil cannot exceed one half. After insertion, maintenance and management to promote rooting are required to increase the survival rate of cutting propagation.

How to maintain it?

First, maintain it in a cool and ventilated location, then move it to a soft light location for about a week, and then spray water every day.

The second is to keep the small space moist, which can be improved by spraying water on the ground and leaves.

Third, fertilization cannot be carried out temporarily and needs to be done after the plants have been transplanted and taken root.
