Zucchini planting methods and management techniques (how to grow zucchini for high yields)

In the recent vegetable market, the market price of zucchini has rebounded significantly, which can be considered good news for vegetable farmers.

Zucchini with good appearance and high weight are sold at a higher price. Paying attention to the use of water and fertilizer in planting management can greatly increase the yield and income of zucchini. So, what are the high-yield fertilization management techniques for zucchini? How can zucchini planting and management increase yield? Let's take a look.

1. Seed selection

Select high-quality seeds with full grains and no diseases or insect pests, soak them for sterilization and disinfection, dry them thoroughly after soaking, and then carry out germination treatment.

2. Planting cultivation technology

First of all, you need to ensure that the soil for planting is fertile and rich in organic matter. When transplanting zucchini seedlings, choose to transplant them by turning the seedlings upside down.

The row spacing is 60-65cm, the small row spacing is 50-55cm, and the plant spacing is 40cm. When planting, first draw shallow trenches in the north-south direction in the shed according to the row spacing size, with a depth of 3-5cm.

Then place the melon seedlings along the shallow ditch according to the plant spacing, build the soil on both sides into high ridges, 20 cm high and 30 cm wide, and then cover them with plastic film to keep warm, prevent water evaporation, reduce humidity in the greenhouse, alleviate diseases, and promote the healthy growth of the seedlings.

Secondly, you can choose to spread organic fertilizer when applying fertilizer, which is beneficial to the strong growth of seedlings.

3. Temperature management

During the seedling stage after planting zucchini, there is no ventilation and the room is closed to increase the temperature, which promotes early rooting and seedling growth.

During the seedling acclimatization period, the greenhouse temperature should be maintained at 25-30℃ during the day and 18-20℃ at night. After the seedlings have been acclimatized, the temperature should be lowered appropriately to 20-25℃ during the day and 12-15℃ at night to promote the development of the plant's root system, which is beneficial for the differentiation of female flowers and early fruit setting.

After the fruit is set, the temperature should be appropriately raised to maintain at 22-26℃ during the day and 15-18℃ at night to promote the expansion of the fruit. After entering the peak period of fruit setting, the temperature gradually rises and the ventilation volume should be gradually increased and the ventilation time should be extended. The maximum daytime temperature should not exceed 30℃.

4. Pruning techniques

In the middle and late stages of growth, the stems and vines creep on the ground. In order to fully receive sunlight, measures must be taken to hang the vines, and diseased, broken, old leaves, side buds, and tendrils must be removed in time to avoid diseases and excessive consumption of nutrients.

5. Preserve flowers and fruits

During the zucchini fruiting period, artificial pollination must be used for pollination. There are two methods.

(1) Artificial pollination

Before 8 to 9 a.m., pick the stamens, tear off the corolla, and touch the stigma of the pistil.

(2) Painting

Apply 25-30 mg/kg of 2,4-D to the pistil, stigma or corolla before 10 a.m. This can increase the pollination rate of zucchini, effectively increase its fruit setting rate, and avoid fruit rotting.

6. Water and fertilizer management

Zucchini has a well-developed root system and strong water absorption ability. After transplanting, it is necessary to dig holes and inject water.

After the soil layer is moistened, it needs to be buried with soil and watered again after 3 days. This can promote the survival rate of seedlings. During the growth process, the soil needs to be kept moist.

Before planting, apply enough basal fertilizer, farmyard manure can be used; after the seedlings have grown, topdressing should be done, using cake fertilizer or triple compound fertilizer. During the fruit-bearing period, fertilizer and water management is more stringent, and nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium should be applied reasonably. During the peak fruit-bearing period, more potassium fertilizer should be applied.
