Methods and steps for growing garlic (how to grow garlic so that it grows well)

Garlic planting method and process

Garlic is a semi-annual herb that is rich in nutrients and has a unique taste. It is a must-have food for many people at every meal.

Its growth has certain requirements for soil, fertilizer and environment. If you want to grow high-yield, high-quality garlic, you must do the following.

① Site selection

Garlic does not have particularly high requirements for soil, but it should be avoided to be planted in saline-alkali land. In addition, garlic has a relatively shallow root system and an average ability to absorb fertilizer, so it is best to choose fertile sandy soil.

② Apply basal fertilizer

After the site is selected, deep plowing and fine harrowing are carried out to level the site, and base fertilizer is applied. The main components of base fertilizer are organic fertilizer and microbial agents. In the past, more people chose animal manure for fertilizer, but now finished organic fertilizer can be used.

The application of organic fertilizers and microbial agents is mainly to regulate the soil, making it loose and nutrient-rich, which is conducive to the growth of garlic. Microbial agents can also promote the development of garlic roots and reduce the occurrence of soil-borne diseases.

③Sowing

Another task before sowing is to choose the right variety. We need to choose suitable varieties based on our own situation, the environment of the park and other factors.

The sowing time is usually chosen from late August to early September, preferably not later than September. When sowing, the selected petals are generally arranged in the pre-opened sowing furrows according to the sowing furrows, and then covered with soil. After watering, the petals are slightly exposed.

In the fields sown in this way, seedlings emerge neatly and their tips are in the same direction within the row, making field management easy.

④ Topdressing

After sowing, garlic needs to be fertilized several times to have a good harvest.

Garlic topdressing can be divided into several stages, including seedling stage, jointing stage and differentiation stage.

If the garlic seedlings grow well in the seedling stage, a small amount of fertilizer or no fertilizer can be applied. However, sufficient topdressing is required in the jointing stage, about 20-25 kg of nitro-compound fertilizer can be applied per mu.

The second top dressing should be carried out after about 15-20 days, with the amount of fertilizer applied being about 20 kg per mu.

During the differentiation period, because reproductive growth and vegetative growth proceed together, generally when the garlic shoots emerge, about 10 kg of high-phosphorus and high-potassium water-soluble fertilizer can be applied per mu. Note that it must be melted before flushing.

⑤Field management

Field management of garlic is also very important. On the one hand, it is necessary to cover the ground with film. After the garlic seedlings emerge, you can use wire to cut holes to make it easier for the seedlings to emerge, and then cover the soil to facilitate growth.

The film cannot be covered before the seedlings emerge from the soil, otherwise the temperature will be high and it will be unfavorable for the emergence of seedlings. Covering the ground with film can increase temperature and moisture, retain fertilizer and increase efficiency, improve the soil, prevent insects and weeds, promote the development of garlic plants, and achieve early maturity and high yield.

On the other hand, it is necessary to maintain the temperature, humidity and other environmental factors in the garlic garden. Do not let the temperature and humidity in the garden be too high, because various diseases and pests are prone to occur in such an environment.
