How to deal with rose false sprouts (what to do if rose cuttings do not take root)

This phenomenon of false life often occurs in rose cuttings, which is inevitable. I often encounter this situation, and even rose cuttings that have been 40 days old have false life.

What is false life ? It means that the buds that emerge from the rose are not truly alive. They are consuming the nutrients stored in the rose branches themselves, not the nutrients provided by the root system.

Why does the rose appear false live phenomenon

1. The humidity of the cutting environment is too high

It is early winter now and the temperature is already very low. The roses absorb less water and the water in the potting soil evaporates more slowly.

We should not water the substrate too much, water it too frequently, or cover the rose with a plastic bag. Once the humidity is too high, the buds will sprout quickly, creating a false impression.

Let the buds think they can grow, but in fact their growth is based on the consumption of nutrients from the branches. Therefore, when you are cutting roses in autumn and winter, don't water them too frequently.

2. There are problems with the rose cuttings

I have mentioned many times in previous cutting videos that it is very important to choose branches when cutting roses. Some bud points cannot be used, such as diseased branches, insect-infested branches, and branches that have already sprouted. Here I will focus on the branches that have already sprouted .

Many flower lovers have a wrong perception that rose branches that have already sprouted buds are highly active, otherwise they would not sprout buds. In fact, such cuttings are most likely to show false vitality.

The buds are very fresh and tender when they are just cut, but they wither after a few days. This is because the rose will not grow roots in a few days. In this season, it takes at least 40 days for the rose cuttings to take root.

Therefore, when choosing cuttings, you must not choose branches that have already grown buds or even leaves .

How to deal with fake roses

(I) Method 1

It is really frustrating to see false growth of roses. The roses that you have cultivated with great effort seem to be growing well, but they wither after a while, eventually leading to failure of cuttings.

I once tried a method, which was to cut off the rose buds that were determined to be fake. As soon as I saw them growing, I cut them off immediately to reduce nutrient consumption.

If the rose can take root later, the buds will grow out from the cut buds, which is equivalent to topping in advance. This method has not yet been determined, so it cannot be promoted. If you are interested, you can try it to see the effect .

(II) Method 2

In fact, you need to determine whether the rose is fake or not? Some netizens are a little anxious when they see that the rose cuttings have not taken root for a month, and think that the rose is fake.

You have to know that for grafted rose cuttings, because the temperature is relatively low now, the branches are not easy to dehydrate and blacken, but there is also a disadvantage, which is that it is not easy to take root.

Therefore, you need to be patient when propagating rose cuttings. It will take at least 40 days before you can draw a conclusion. I propagated rose cuttings some time ago, and it has been nearly 50 days, but very few have taken root. Many have grown callus tissue, but some have not shown any movement yet.

Therefore, you'd better make sure whether the rose is a fake one. I suggest you wait and see. If it is confirmed to be a fake one, it is generally hopeless. You can only replant it, and pay attention to the bud point selection and environmental control next time .
