How to grow a potted banyan tree to make it grow better and more vigorous (how to grow a banyan bonsai at home)

First, Banyan tree planting

The banyan tree has a well-developed root system and grows relatively fast. It is suitable to plant the banyan tree in a larger flowerpot, which can reduce the space restrictions on the root system and accommodate more soil.

Although banyan trees have a strong ability to shape soil, when planting, loose, breathable, well-drained, and slightly acidic soil with good moisture retention is more suitable for the growth of banyan trees. There are two common ways to mix the soil for planting:

1. Heavy fertilizer soil: 3 parts pond mud, 3 parts humus, 3 parts volcanic rock, 1 part perlite. Mix them thoroughly. This kind of heavy fertilizer soil is suitable for larger piles. The outstanding feature is the continuous output of nutrients.

2. Lightly fertile slightly acidic soil: Mix 3 parts of farmland soil, 3 parts of humus soil, 3 parts of freshwater river sand, and 1 part of honeycomb coal powder evenly. This kind of soil is lightly fertile, easy to control the excessive growth of banyan trees, and suitable for small and medium-sized bonsai.

Second, the planting environment

Banyan trees like warm and humid environments, and the most suitable growth temperature is between 20-30 degrees. Therefore, in cultivation, they grow faster in spring and autumn. When the temperature exceeds 35 degrees Celsius in summer, they must be cooled down, ventilated more, and moved to a cool place indoors.

In winter, the temperature should not be lower than 0 degrees Celsius, otherwise it is easy to freeze to death. When the temperature drops by 8 degrees Celsius, you can move it to a warm and sunny place.

Banyan trees can be maintained in full sunlight unless the temperature is higher than 35 degrees Celsius. However, if the light exposure is slightly controlled, the leaves will be more shiny and the growth rate will be faster. Generally, banyan trees are kept in a location that is not exposed to sunlight at noon and has sunlight for about 6 hours in the morning and evening.

Third, water supplement

When the surface soil of the banyan tree is about 3 cm dry, water it immediately. Spray once or twice a day, and increase the number of sprays in hot and dry seasons.

Fourth, fertilizer supplement

Banyan trees grow fast and have a strong germination ability. Therefore, they consume a lot of nutrients. When fertilizing, you can apply a thin organic fertilizer once a month.

When loosening the soil, bury the "fermented sheep manure" shallowly in the shallow surface of the flower soil. Fertilize frequently and thinly, and it is better to apply less rather than more.

Spring and autumn are the peak growth periods for banyan trees. In order to promote the growth of banyan trees faster, you can add organic fertilizer and water once a month in these two seasons.

When watering, dilute the fermented animal manure water in a ratio of 1:3 and water it on the flower soil.

Fifth, pruning method

Banyan trees should be planted and pruned no less than three times a year, because after each fertilization, the banyan tree will obviously grow faster and sprouts will grow soon .

1. If you want the trunk of the banyan tree to be strong, you need to remove the adventitious buds from time to time, and combine it with pruning the axillary branches, dense branches, dull branches and other taboo branches of bonsai.

2. If you want the side branches of the banyan tree to be thick, you should frequently prune the top of the tree to reduce the growth of the apical dominance. Then, when the side branches are grown to a certain thickness, you can do short pruning to shape them.

3. Banyan trees grow very quickly and their branches often block each other's light and hinder ventilation.

Cut off parallel branches, symmetrical branches, and whorled branches from the main trunk of the banyan tree to make the branches of the banyan tree divided into layers. The upper and lower layers are orderly and sparse, which can increase the ornamental value and speed up the concentrated nutrient supply to the retained branches.
