Do figs need to be pruned? When is the best time to prune?

In order to better preserve the nutrients on the fig tree, we need to cut off the extra branches. Otherwise, in the second year, we will find that the figs on the tree are not as delicious as the previous year, and the taste is not fresh. Properly cutting off some small and dry branches can allow the tree to absorb more nutrients.

Fig pruning time

Figs are usually pruned in spring before the flowers sprout. At this time, the growth rate is relatively fast, and it is just when they are about to sprout, so the plant has a strong healing ability and can recover as soon as possible.

We also need to pinch the branches in time. In the summer, the growth is vigorous and the branches grow in a messy way, so we can thin them out in time. In autumn and winter, we should remove the dead flowers in time and then cut off the branches that are in poor growth condition.

Fig pruning method

When pruning figs, some of the overgrown branches should be cut off. Since these branches are relatively thin and weak, their flowering and fruiting will only take up nutrients from other branches, so they need to be cut off.

In addition, there are some branches that are diseased or weak. Because they have grown some diseases and pests during the growth process, it is difficult for them to bloom and bear fruit. It is best to cut them off.

When the branches on the fig tree grow too densely, we also need to prune them in time, because it will hinder the normal ventilation inside the plant, easily cause the reproduction of pathogens, and even endanger the health of the entire plant, so pruning is necessary.
