How to propagate petunias by cuttings and precautions How to propagate petunias by cuttings

If you have a potted petunia at home, you can choose to propagate it by cuttings. This method is not only simple and easy to learn, but also has a high survival rate and can save costs. The best time is spring and autumn, and after the cuttings are completed, just wait for the roots to take shape.

Petunia cutting time

If the petunia plant is grown indoors, it can be propagated all year round . But if it is grown outdoors, it is best to do it in spring and autumn , when the temperature is most suitable.

Petunia cuttings steps

1. Prepare the culture soil

The cutting medium for petunia can be made of sawdust and garden soil , which should be mixed evenly in a ratio of 2:8 and then sterilized and set aside.

2. Choose cuttings

On the growing petunia plants, select disease-free and strong branches , cut about 10-15 cm with sterilized scissors, and do not use old branches. Remove the leaves at the base, keep 1-2 leaves at the top, cut the bottom into oblique sections, soak in rooting water for 40 minutes, take out and put in the shade to dry.

3. Cuttings

Prepare a suitable flowerpot, not too big, fill the pot with culture soil and smooth the soil. Use a tool to poke a few holes in the soil, insert the petunia cuttings into the holes, and slightly compact the surrounding soil . Water the pot and place it in a ventilated place for maintenance. The temperature needs to be controlled between 15-25℃. If the temperature is too high, it needs to be cooled down in time. Transplant after rooting.

Maintenance of petunia after cutting

After cutting, petunia needs to be watered and potted , and then the plant needs to be placed in a cool, ventilated environment for maintenance . The ambient temperature should be controlled at around 15-25℃. When the temperature is too high, the plant should be cooled down in time. After the plant takes root, it can be transplanted.
