How to grow Ficus microcarpa

How to grow Ficus microcarpa

The fiddle-leaf fig , with its dark green and shiny leaves and elegant appearance, has become a new favorite of indoor green plants in recent years. Many friends want to grow it but don’t know the maintenance techniques. The following are the cultivation methods of fiddle-leaf fig. I hope it will be helpful to everyone.

1. Fertilize regularly

During the growing season (spring and autumn), apply thin liquid fertilizer or compound fertilizer 1 to 2 times every half month. For plants with vigorous growth, add 2 to 3 times of cake fertilizer and water to promote the growth of plants. The plants go dormant in winter, so reduce or stop fertilizing. Apply a thin organic fertilizer solution once before winter.

2. Water at the right time

Fiddle-leaf fig likes moisture, so you need to follow the principle of "water when dry and water when wet", and water thoroughly after the soil is completely dry. Keep the soil moist in spring and summer and spray water frequently to humidify the air. Reduce the frequency of watering in winter to prevent waterlogging and frost damage.

3. Adequate lighting

The fiddle-leaf fig needs sufficient light, but cannot tolerate strong direct sunlight and needs shade in summer. Place it in a place with diffuse light daily, ensuring at least 4 hours of light per day. Insufficient light will cause the leaves to become smaller and thinner, affecting their ornamental value.

4. Suitable potting soil

Choose loose, fertile, breathable and well-drained acidic soil. A mixture of peat soil, garden soil and perlite is recommended. Choose a ceramic or cement pot that is slightly larger than the plant.

5. Notes

Regularly prune withered, overgrown and yellowed branches and leaves to reduce nutrient consumption and improve ventilation and light conditions. Fertilization can be combined with watering, directly watering with clean water to promote root absorption and avoid fertilizer damage.

The above are the maintenance methods and precautions for fiddle-leaf fig. Friends who have grown fiddle-leaf fig can pay more attention to these points when maintaining it. You can also leave a message if you have any questions.
