When is the best time to plant daylily? Planting method and cultivation time of daylily

Daylily is a vegetable that is eaten for its flowers. It has the effect of clearing away heat and detoxifying. It has high nutritional and medicinal value. It is grown in both the north and south of my country.

Generally, planting one acre of daylily can earn a profit of 12,000 yuan , and one acre can produce about 150 kilograms of dried daylily. According to the current market price, it can be sold for 40 yuan per kilogram, so the market price and net profit are both very good income. So how can we grow daylily to get a higher yield?

When is the best time to plant daylily?

Daylily can generally be planted in two seasons, so spring and autumn are the normal planting times for daylily.

Spring planting is carried out in mid-to-late April, and autumn planting is carried out in late September or early October . Generally, when daylilies are planted in autumn, perennial roots store more nutrients, which is conducive to the formation of nutrients.

If it is in the Northeast region, it is recommended to complete the sowing in early June. In autumn, planting can generally be carried out from the beginning of frost to before freezing.

Planting technology of daylily

Site selection and land preparation

The requirements for growth of daylily are not very strict. It is very resistant to poverty and drought and has a relatively long lifespan. It can generally grow for five to eight years, so it is more suitable to be planted alone on hillsides, mountains and other areas. However, it will grow better if it can be planted in places with loose and fertile soil.

Planting method

①Sowing and seedling raising

The daylily seeds are placed in the seedbed for seedling cultivation, and then transplanted after the seedlings grow. However, this method has two disadvantages: low yield and poor quality; it will not bloom until the third year after planting, and normal yield will not be achieved until the fourth year.

②Propagation by division

After harvesting the daylily in autumn or after it goes dormant, separate the newly grown roots from the old seedlings and plant them. This way, they can bloom and be harvested the next year, which is much more efficient.

Field management

① Plant spacing : Daylily should be planted at a reasonable density. The planting spacing is generally 35 to 40 centimeters between each plant .

② Temperature : The most suitable temperature for the growth of daylily is around 15 to 20 degrees. Therefore, temperature control is required during its flowering period, which can promote flowering and improve quality and yield.

Pests and diseases

Daylily has relatively few diseases, that is, sometimes there are some aphids, leaf spots, etc. Therefore, when there are relatively few aphids, manual pest control can be carried out.

If there are too many, you need to spray dimethoate emulsifiable concentrate, and you cannot harvest within half a month after spraying. Secondly, for leaf spot disease, chlorothalonil can usually be used.

Harvesting and processing

① Picking time

Daylily usually blooms at night , so it is usually harvested in the morning . Once it reaches noon, it will wither.

If it rains, try to harvest it a day earlier, as it will grow faster then. It will be useless if you harvest it according to the usual schedule.

②Sun drying

After harvesting, the daylily needs to be processed. Generally, it is first steamed, then dried in the sun, and finally packaged.
