Watermelon Seed Germination Method

Method 1: Soaking and germination

The first step is to select mature and plump watermelon seeds and soak them in clean water for 4 hours. Then place the seeds evenly on 2-3 layers of fine and tight moist gauze.

Step 2 : Cover the seeds with 2 layers of gauze soaked in water and place them in a container. Place the container in a warm, ventilated, sunny place. Keep the gauze moist. The seeds will germinate in about 4-5 days .

Method 2: Germination at body temperature

The first step is to wrap the selected high-quality seeds with wet gauze, put them into a sealed bag, and place it in the innermost pocket of your clothes close to your body.

The second step is to turn the sealed bag over on time to allow the seeds to be heated evenly, and use body temperature to germinate. Generally, germination will begin in 24 to 36 hours.

Watermelon seed germination process

After the watermelon seeds have undergone various germination treatments, a small white bud will grow from the tip of the seed within a normal period of time. After growing slowly, light green watermelon seedlings will grow from the white bud.

Watermelon seeds planting and harvesting

Generally speaking, the growing period of watermelon is about 40 days, and it takes about 3 months from sowing to fruiting and ripening . Different watermelon varieties have different growing and ripening periods. Early-maturing watermelons take about 90 days from sowing to harvesting, mid-maturing varieties take about 100 days from sowing to harvesting, and late-maturing watermelons mature more slowly, taking 100-120 days.
