What is Peony and How to Plant It

1. What is Peony?

Peony is a perennial herb of the genus Paeonia in the family Ranunculaceae. It has many nicknames, such as Licao, Jiangli, Yurong, Hongyao, and Muguhua, etc. Its height is between 50-110cm, and its leaves are relatively slender and emerald green. Its flowers are beautiful and varied, and different varieties have different colors. Among them, the more common ones are red, white, pink, black, yellow, purple and so on. Some special varieties have more than two colors.

2. How to plant peony

1. Sowing and planting: First, select some healthy and plump seeds and soak them in water at about 50°C for about a day to soften the seed coat. Then prepare some culture soil with good air permeability, place the seeds on the soil surface, and cover with 1-2cm of soil. After that, place them in a well-ventilated place and water them in time to keep the soil at a certain humidity. It will germinate after 15-20 days.

2. Cutting planting: It can also be planted by cuttings. First, cut a well-growing branch with a length of 10-15cm and a few leaves from a healthy mother plant, and place it in disinfectant to disinfect the cut. Then place it in a ventilated place, let the cut end dry, and then insert it into a soft and breathable culture medium. Then put it in a warm place and cover it with a film to keep it warm and moisturized. Wait 20-30 days for it to take root.
