How to germinate lotus seeds How to plant lotus seeds after they have germinated

Lotus seed germination method

Step 1 : Be sure to select mature lotus seeds with blackened skin, and use a knife to cut a small hole at the concave end of the lotus seed.

Step 2 : Soak the lotus seeds in clean water for about a week after they open. Change the water every day to keep the water clear.

Step 3 : When the seeds fully absorb water and swell, a green bud will extend from the open end of the lotus seed. When the bud grows to about 10 cm, it can be planted in a flower pot filled with silt . If you want to plant it in a lotus pond, you need to wrap the lotus seeds with a layer of soil in advance to prevent them from floating to the water surface and unable to take root. The planting depth can be 5 to 10 cm.

Lotus seed germination process

After about a week, the lotus seeds that have been soaked in the broken hole will start to grow green sprouts from one end of the broken hole, and then slowly grow and develop. Generally, they can be planted when the green sprouts grow to 10 centimeters.

Lotus seed planting and harvesting

As an aquatic plant, lotus can not only be used for viewing, but also its lotus seeds and lotus roots can be eaten and used as medicine. Under suitable temperature conditions, lotus seeds can have leaves and flowers about three months after being planted.

Generally, if the lotus seeds sown in spring are properly cared for, they will mature in autumn. In my country's Yangtze River Basin, they can mature in June. One month later, you can pick the lotus pods and eat the lotus seeds.
