Temperature requirements for watermelon cultivation

Watermelon likes warm and dry environment. It is not cold-resistant. Generally, the most suitable planting temperature is around 25℃ . After normal sowing and germination, the temperature must be controlled above 32℃ to meet its normal growth. Planting watermelon in areas with large temperature differences between day and night will make the fruit sweeter when mature.

Watermelon growing temperature

Watermelon is not resistant to low temperatures. The temperature range required for its growth is 10℃-40℃ , and the most suitable temperature for its growth is 25℃~30℃ . Watermelon has different temperature requirements at different growth stages. The most suitable temperature for watermelon germination is 28℃~30℃, the growth temperature after germination is 22℃~25℃, and the temperature for later development, flowering and fruiting is higher, above 30℃.

Watermelon planting time

The planting time of watermelon should be chosen according to the climatic conditions of each place. Early-maturing watermelons planted in the natural environment are sown in March, and the watermelons can be mature and put on the market in July. For late-maturing varieties, the planting time can be appropriately postponed and sown in mid-to-late April.

In addition, we can also sow in June and July. The watermelons sown at this time can generally be harvested in October. If the temperature is slightly lower, we can sow in July and August, but they need to be cultivated in a greenhouse.
