As a widely planted fruit tree, bayberry is favored by many farmers and is planted all over the country. In addition to being eaten directly, bayberry can also be further processed into a variety of foods such as canned food, jam, and preserves. So which month is the best to plant bayberry seedlings ? Which month is best to plant bayberry seedlings? The sowing of bayberry is usually arranged in mid-to-late October, so that in January of the following year, the seeds will begin to germinate, and in mid-February, the seedlings will be able to break through the soil. After the seedlings are unearthed, special attention needs to be paid to the management of temperature and humidity to prevent the seedlings from being damaged by the sun or affected by sudden wilt disease. Generally, the seedlings can be transplanted in late July. The best time to plant bayberry trees is in spring or autumn, as the climate in these two seasons is suitable for the growth of bayberry trees. Planting during the high temperature period from June to July should be avoided as this is not conducive to the growth of the tree. Planting bayberry trees can be done by sowing or cuttings. If you choose to grow bayberry in a greenhouse , the recommended planting time will be slightly later than outdoor planting, so that the sugar in the fruit can be better accumulated. Suitable months for greenhouse cultivation can be selected in June, July or August. Planting technology of bayberry When to transplant: When the bayberry seedlings grow to about 10 cm tall and have 4 to 5 leaves, they can be transplanted. Before transplanting, the nursery needs to prepare the land and apply fertilizer, and at the same time, spread 25 kg of lime or spray 600 times thiophanate solution on each acre of bed surface. Transplantation method: Transplant seedlings according to the standard of row spacing of 30 to 35 cm and plant spacing of 8 to 10 cm. Choose to transplant in the morning or evening on a cloudy or sunny day, and make sure to water the plants thoroughly to establish rooting. 12,000 to 14,000 plants are transplanted per acre. Fertilization strategy: After the root system of the bayberry seedlings resumes good growth and grows new leaves, you can start applying diluted human feces and urine (add 2 spoons of human feces and urine and 0.25 kg of urea to every load of water), and then apply 2% triple compound fertilizer solution or diluted human feces and urine once every half a month. Tree shape management: After planting, promptly prune branches that are less than half the length of the trunk. In the second year, select three main branches and distribute them evenly in three directions. In the third year, select secondary branches on the main branches to make the crown form a natural open-heart shape and control the tree height between 2.5 and 3 meters. Soil management: Weed and loosen the soil in time, apply more lime to adjust the soil pH, and supplement calcium. Green manure crops such as beans and peanuts can be interplanted in the forest, but avoid planting tall or climbing plants. Control new shoots to promote flower bud formation: When the bayberry tree crown height reaches 2.0 to 2.5 meters, use the method of controlling new shoots to promote flower bud formation to achieve early fruiting and high yield. You can use methods such as pulling branches, opening the crown, and relaxing the tree vigor, or apply paclobutrazol to the soil from early October to late December to control new shoots. Flower and fruit thinning: Combine spring pruning with the removal of excess flower branches, especially weak ones. In years with many flowers, you can use bayberry flower thinning agent to spray during the flowering period. About 20 days after flowering, the fruits should be thinned out according to the amount of fruit on the tree. It is almost time to plant bayberry seedlings. Friends who want to plant bayberry this year can hurry up, but they should also pay attention to whether the local environment is suitable.
