Camellia soil preparation requirements

Camellia is a common flower in the warm southern regions and is suitable for garden landscaping. Camellia likes to grow in fertile, loose, breathable, slightly acidic soil.

Therefore, when we prepare soil for camellia, we should control the pH value of the prepared soil between 4.5 and 6.5. The humus soil bought from the market cannot be used directly for planting camellia. It needs to be mixed with other soil to dilute the fertility before use.

How to prepare camellia soil

1. Suitable soil for camellia growth: 1 part river sand or coal slag, 2 parts garden soil or mountain soil, about 1% bone meal or about 2% calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer. Mix them evenly according to the above proportions and the volume of the soil.

2. Coconut bran and humus have strong air permeability and water permeability, and are not prone to water accumulation. Therefore, when preparing camellia soil, you can add about 10% coconut bran or humus. This can not only ensure the nutrients needed for the growth of camellia, but also ensure that the soil is moist and does not accumulate water.

Matters Needing Attention in the Preparation of Camellia Soil

1. The prepared camellia soil should be slightly acidic and should not be prepared with alkaline soil. The soil should also be kept moist, otherwise it will be detrimental to the growth of camellia, and it will easily cause yellowing of leaves, few or even no flowers, and in severe cases it will cause root rot and death.

2. The prepared camellia soil cannot be used directly. It should be dried and disinfected before transplanting the camellia to avoid insects. At the same time, a piece of soil cannot be reused, which will lead to a decrease in fertility and pests and diseases, affecting the growth of camellia.
