How and when to plant peony seeds

Suitable planting time for peony seeds

Peony seeds must be collected annually and sown in late August to late September. If they are sown later than late September, they may not take root, and the germination rate in the spring of the following year will be greatly reduced. In addition, their seedlings will also lead to underdeveloped root systems, making it difficult to resist spring drought and prone to death.

How to sow peony seeds

1. Seed treatment

Before planting, remove the shriveled seeds and impurities, and then use water to remove the bad seeds. The seed coat of peony seeds is thinner than that of peony seeds, so they are easy to absorb water and germinate, and the germination rate will be improved. After soaking the seeds in 50℃ warm water for 24 hours, take out and sow immediately.

2. Planting

Apply sufficient base fertilizer before sowing and seedling raising, and sow after deep plowing and leveling. Cover with wet soil after sowing, and then cover with plastic film, which will be removed in the spring of the following year.

Key points for daily management of peony seeds

In order to make the peony flowers more beautiful, it is necessary to cut off the thin branches in time and remove the side buds at the same time so that the nutrients can be concentrated and more peony flowers will bloom. After the flowers fade, the remaining flowers need to be cut off in time.

At the same time, we must pay attention to water and fertilizer management. Watering should be done thoroughly when the soil is dry. Water should not be allowed to accumulate in the flowerpot. When the flower buds are stretching, watering and fertilizing should be combined to make the flowers more colorful.
