The reason why succulents become more beautiful when it's cold

In fact, many succulents are relatively cold-resistant. As long as we move them indoors and take good warming measures, the plants will grow vigorously. In winter, the leaves will be thick and colorful, and they will look better.

(1) Plenty of sunlight

In autumn and winter, the weather is dry and the sun is abundant. Sunlight is the driving force for photosynthesis of succulents, which is conducive to the production of nutrients and transpiring water.

While reducing the water concentration, the concentration of succulent plant pigments and sugar alcohol substances is increased, so that the succulent plants show a color reaction.

(2) Air drying

Succulent plants have thick and fleshy leaves, and their nutritional organs are rich in water. They are relatively drought-resistant and do not like waterlogging. Instead, they are prone to excessive growth and root rot in an overly humid environment.

Therefore, the cool and dry environment in autumn and winter is actually beneficial to reducing the water concentration in cells. When the pigment concentration is high, the color reaction is more obvious.

(3) Large temperature difference

The temperature difference mainly refers to the temperature difference between morning and evening. In autumn and winter, the temperature difference between morning and evening is larger, which is conducive to succulents to fully carry out photosynthesis to produce nutrients during the day, while the low temperature environment at night is conducive to reducing transpiration and avoiding excessive consumption of nutrients.

The temperature difference effect brought about by the temperature difference between day and night is also a catalyst for making the leaves of succulents plump, the white powder thicker, and the coloring effect obvious.

In autumn and winter, the temperature difference between day and night should be controlled at about 10℃, while the lowest temperature at night should not be lower than zero. For example, the temperature should be above 15℃ during the day and not lower than 5℃ at night.

Compared to the hot summer, when succulents are prone to black rot and waterlogging, succulents can grow well in the cool autumn and winter.

In addition to the well-known spring and autumn growing seasons, early winter is also the golden growing season for succulents, and it is a time when it is relatively easy for them to grow!
