Taboos for growing dahlias in winter

Taboos for growing dahlias in winter

Plant habits

First of all, it has a greater demand for light, requiring about ten to twelve hours of sunlight a day. However, too strong sunlight will affect flowering, but considering that the sunlight in winter is generally not too strong, sunlight must be guaranteed. In addition, it also has temperature requirements. It can grow between eight and thirty-five degrees Celsius, but the suitable temperature is in the range of fifteen to twenty-five degrees. Therefore, it is also important to maintain the temperature in winter. Another thing is its requirement for water; it is not tolerant to waterlogging. After understanding its characteristics, we can basically understand what the specific taboos are.

Taboos

The temperature is too low: We have mentioned above the range in which it can grow normally, the lowest being eight degrees. Even though growth is very slow in winter, the temperature cannot drop below zero degrees. In order to ensure that the plants can overwinter normally, except for places with lower latitudes where the winter temperature can be guaranteed, it is best to keep the plants indoors overwintering in other places with high latitudes or high altitudes. Otherwise, even if the plants are not frozen to death outdoors, their development in the second year will definitely be affected to a certain extent.

Insufficient light: Sunlight in winter is very important for plants to survive the winter. Whether placed indoors or outdoors, it cannot be kept in a shaded environment for a long time. If you think the midday sun is too strong, then only provide shade at noon, and don't forget to let it bask in the sun the rest of the time.

Overwatering: We all know that plants require less water in winter. What's more, this plant is afraid of stagnant water. So avoid excessive water.
