Soil preparation method for Cymbidium orchid

1. Peat soil + perlite

The soil for cymbidium can be prepared with peat soil and perlite in a ratio of 4:1. Such soil is loose and breathable, which is very beneficial to its growth, but it is more expensive.

2. Sanhua Satsuma soil or Satsuma soil + Tangjilan stone + bark

The nutrient soil for Cymbidium orchids can also be mixed with five parts of Sanhua Satsuma soil or Satsuma soil, two parts of Tangjilan stone, and two parts of bark. This kind of soil has better drainage and is more suitable for use in greenhouses, the south, or high-humidity areas.

Steps for changing the soil for Cymbidium orchid

1. Prepare the flower pot: It is best to choose a tall flower pot for planting cymbidium. The material can be clay pot or porcelain pot. The diameter of about 15-20 cm is more suitable. After preparing the flower pot, brush it clean first.

2. Treat the plants: Take the cymbidium out of the original pot, comb the roots, cut off the old and rotten roots, thin out the dense roots, soak and disinfect them in a solution of carbendazim in advance, and thin out the branches and leaves appropriately.

3. Planting: Place some broken bricks at the bottom of the flowerpot, then fill it with the prepared soil, and then plant the cymbidium in it. Plant 2-4 seedlings in each flowerpot, press them tightly, water them thoroughly, and keep them in a cool, diffused light place.
