The growing environment and local conditions of Polygonum multiflorum

Polygonum multiflorum growth environment and conditions

Polygonum multiflorum generally grows in valley bushes, under forests on hillsides, and in rock crevices along ditches, at an altitude of 200-3000 meters. It is cultivated in southern Shaanxi, southern Gansu, East China, Central China, South China, Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou, and is also distributed in Japan.

Polygonum multiflorum growing conditions

Polygonum multiflorum likes a warm, humid environment with plenty of sunshine. It cannot tolerate direct sunlight and is suitable for maintenance in semi-shade. It grows well in sandy loam with deep soil, loose, fertile, good drainage and rich in humus. It cannot tolerate saline-alkali, waterlogged and heavy clay soil and should avoid continuous cropping.

Polygonum multiflorum growth temperature

Polygonum multiflorum likes a warm environment. The generally suitable temperature for its growth is 14-16℃. As the temperature rises, the growth of the stems and vines enters its peak period, and the growth becomes slow in the hot and dry season.

Growth process of Polygonum multiflorum

Polygonum multiflorum resumes growth in spring. As the temperature rises and the rainy season arrives, the growth rate of the stems and vines accelerates. The growth is slower in the hot and dry season. When the autumn rainy season arrives, the stem and vine growth enters the second peak period. After winter, the above-ground stems and vines begin to wither and shed leaves, entering a dormant period.

Polygonum multiflorum has a well-developed root system. In the first year after planting, the main vine grows on the above-ground part. After the second year, the main vine continues to grow, and new branches and vines emerge from the base of the stem and the internodes of the main stem vine.

Time and method of planting Polygonum multiflorum

The fruit of Polygonum multiflorum matures in November in autumn. At this time, the seeds can be collected, dried, and placed in a ventilated and dry place. They can be sown from early March to early July of the following year. Renovate the soil in advance, spread the seeds evenly in the ditch, cover with 1 cm of soil, compact it and water it immediately. The seedlings will emerge in about half a month. When the plant height is 10cm-12cm, it is necessary to transplant or determine the seedlings.
