Carrot germination time

The outside of carrot seeds is covered with prickles. If they are sown directly, the seedlings will emerge slowly and unevenly. The seeds need to be soaked in advance to germinate. Generally, they will emerge and germinate about 5-7 days after planting.

When and how to plant carrots

1. Sowing time: There are two sowing times for carrots, mainly in July and August in summer, and can also be sown in spring. The earlier time should be in February or March. If the temperature of the open field is low at this time, you can choose mid-to-late March to early April.

2. Choose soil: Carrots are suitable for growing in loam with deep soil and good drainage. For clay soil, good drainage must be ensured, the land must be deep plowed, and base fertilizer must be applied to ensure nutrition. You can choose decomposed organic fertilizer.

3. Seed treatment: Select suitable seeds and soak them in 37°C warm water before sowing. Wait for 12-16 hours before taking them out and placing them in a cool place to dry. This will facilitate germination later.

4. Planting method: Before sowing carrots, loosen the soil to ensure that the surface is flat, sprinkle the seeds on it, and cover it with a 1.5 cm layer of soil. In order to ensure uniform sowing, you can add sand.

How to manage carrots after they sprout

1. Watering: After the carrots emerge, they require relatively little water. You must control the watering and not water too much at one time to avoid a large amount of water accumulation in the soil. Otherwise, it will easily lead to root rot, which will affect the growth of the radish.

2. Fertilization: After the carrot seedlings emerge, do not rush to apply fertilizer. After the seedlings are established, apply fertilizer in combination with watering. You can apply 10-15 kg of urea and 10 kg of potassium sulfate per mu to promote the growth of seedling leaves.
