How long does it take for bitter melon to germinate?

Bitter melon has the effect of clearing away heat and removing fire, and is a common ingredient on the table. When we grow bitter melon ourselves, we need to germinate the bitter melon seeds. The thick outer seed coat of bitter melon will hinder germination, so we must first open the tip of the seed, wrap it in a moist paper towel or soak the seeds in water for about 8 hours. When the seeds turn white, they can be taken out and planted. The germinated seeds will germinate about a week after sowing.

Bitter melon germination time

Bitter melon is relatively heat-resistant and prefers a warm growing environment. At a temperature of 20-30℃, the germinated seeds should be planted in loose and fertile humus soil. Keep the soil moist and avoid direct sunlight. Place the sown bitter melon in a ventilated and semi-shaded environment. They will basically sprout the next day.

Whether it is vegetable production or growing vegetables at home for your own taste, after sowing the germinated seeds, you will soon see bitter gourds sprouting neatly.

Management of bitter melon after germination

1. In order for bitter melon to thrive, the temperature should be maintained at a moderately high temperature after sowing. The temperature should generally be maintained at 30-33℃ during the day and 20-23℃ at night to promote rapid germination of bitter melon.

2. Watering and topdressing are usually not done before the bitter melon seedlings have grown fully. However, from the moment the seedlings emerge from the soil, fine moist soil should be sieved and appropriately covered on the exposed soil to just cover the soil cracks.
