Peach tree cutting time and method

Peach tree cutting time

Peach tree cuttings can be carried out from spring to summer. The survival rate of cuttings is the highest in spring. The best time to take cuttings is when the temperature stabilizes to above 20 degrees Celsius and the peach trees begin to bloom about 10 days later. If you have a simple greenhouse in summer, you can also take cuttings and survive.

Peach tree cutting method

1. Cuttings

The cuttings for peach trees should not be too old or too tender. Choose 2-year-old branches with a diameter of 1 to 2 cm and a length of about 10 to 20 cm. The wound at the cutting site should be trimmed into a 45-degree angle. They can be soaked in clean water for about a week before cutting. 2 hours before cutting, soak in a rooting agent containing "indoleacetic acid" for 1 to 2 hours.

2. Cutting material

For peach trees that are propagated in large quantities, you can first use river sand as planting material. River sand is clean, sterile, loose and breathable, which can promote the rooting of peach branches. Cuttings used as bonsai can be directly cut into Akadama soil, which can save the step of changing pots and soil in the later stage.

3. Cutting method

After disinfecting the substrate, you can plant the peach tree cuttings into the soil, about 2/3 of the length, then fix it and water it to maintain the moisture of the soil.

Maintenance of peach tree after cutting

After the peach tree is grafted, it can be covered with transparent plastic film as a simple greenhouse. If there is a greenhouse, the cuttings can be directly maintained in a location with sufficient light. The soft light in spring is more conducive to rooting. If there is no simple greenhouse, you can first put it in a cool and ventilated location, and then slowly increase the light after about 15 days.
