Milan cutting time and method

Milan cutting time and method

Milan cutting time

The time for Milan cuttings depends on the choice of branches. If you choose 2-year-old branches for cuttings, you can do it in spring from April to May. If you choose new branches of the current year, the time can be selected from June to August of the current year. The climate in these two time periods is very mild and suitable, which is conducive to the survival and rooting of the cuttings.

Milan cutting method

1. Cut branches

Choose 1-2 year old branches from the Milan mother plant and cut them into 8-10 cm long pieces. Cut the lower end of the cuttings into an oblique cut to increase the area for nutrient absorption. Remove some leaves near the lower end, apply a little wood ash on the cut, and place it in a cool place to dry.

2. Prepare the soil

In order to promote the success of cuttings, the soil needs to be suitable. It is recommended to use two parts of compost soil and garden soil, add one part of sand, and mix them evenly as the substrate. Of course, the soil formula can also be flexibly matched, as long as it is prepared according to the principles of looseness, fertility, and good drainage.

3. Take cuttings

Insert the processed branches into the soil, but not too deep. After insertion, compact the surrounding soil. Place the plant in a cool place for maintenance, cover it with plastic film to keep it moist, spray water appropriately to maintain humidity, and promote rooting of the branches.

Maintenance of Milan after cutting

After Milan cuttings, it should be placed in a cool and ventilated environment for maintenance. The temperature should be kept between 25-30℃ and the relative humidity should be kept above 90%. The cuttings will take root in about 80 days.
