Due to the large number of watermelon varieties, their specific growth cycles are also different. Late-maturing varieties have the longest growth cycle, taking about 100-120 days from planting to harvesting.

Watermelon planting tips

1. Watermelon should be planted in sandy loam with deep soil, loose and fertile texture, convenient irrigation and drainage, and in fields where melon crops have not been planted for less than 5 years in dry land and less than 3 years in paddy fields.

2. Seedling-promoting fertilizer is generally applied within one week after transplanting melon seedlings or when the seeds are 4-5 leaves in the direct-seeded field. When the base fertilizer is insufficient or the fertilizer effect of the base fertilizer has not yet been exerted, a small amount of quick-acting fertilizer is applied, generally 8-10 grams of urea (or 20 grams of ammonium sulfate) per plant, and then covered with soil after digging trenches for fertilizer application.
