How to propagate Wisteria and what to pay attention to

Wisteria propagation method

The main ways of propagating Wisteria are cutting propagation and sowing propagation. Wisteria seeds can be propagated, and the natural reproduction method is sowing propagation. Wisteria cutting propagation is the fastest.

Wisteria breeding time

The breeding time of wisteria varies in different places. It is suitable to breed in early spring in March in the south, while in the north where the temperature is low, the time can be a little later, in April in spring.

Wisteria propagation method

Wisteria division propagation

Wisteria division propagation is generally carried out in late winter and early spring. Cut the young plants that grow from the rhizosphere of wisteria and plant them in separate pots.

Wisteria cutting propagation

For wisteria cuttings, you need to choose 1-2 year old branches that have just sprouted in mid-March, with a length of about 15 cm. Prepare loose soil and deeper potting soil, disinfect them in advance, and then insert the branches into the soil.

After Wisteria cuttings, water it thoroughly, strengthen maintenance, and keep the soil moist. The survival rate is relatively high. As long as it is properly maintained, the height of the plant can reach 20-50 cm in the same year, and it can grow into a strong plant after two years.

Wisteria seed propagation

Wisteria is usually sown in March every year. The seeds can be harvested in November of the previous year, peeled, dried and stored. In March, select fuller seeds and soak them in hot water. When the water temperature drops to 30 degrees, take out the seeds and rinse them in cold water, wrap them with wet cloth overnight, and sow them directly the next day.

Notes on Wisteria Propagation

When growing wisteria flowers, you should maintain the beautiful shape of the tree, replenish water in time, and do a good job of pruning and pinching. Every year when its new branches grow about 15 centimeters, you can pinch them directly. It also needs to be pruned once after the flowering period. When pruning, you can cut off all the dense branches, diseased branches, and old branches in the wisteria flowers.
