When and how to repot Kalanchoe

When and how to repot Kalanchoe

Changing pot time of Kalanchoe

The Kalanchoe can be repotted in spring and autumn, but be sure to avoid its flowering period, which is May. Moreover, the Kalanchoe will enter a dormant state in summer, so do not repot it at this time. Repotting in the cold winter may cause frostbite to the Kalanchoe.

Methods and steps for repotting Kalanchoe

1. Remove the plant from the pot : When removing the plant from the pot, first use a small shovel to draw a circle along the inner wall of the pot, or tap the outer wall of the pot gently, both of which can make the potting soil easier to separate. Then turn the pot upside down, hold the rhizome, and carefully take it out.

2. Prune the roots : first take out the plant, shake off some of the soil around the roots, then cut off the old roots and rotten roots, and then disinfect. If you just want to change the pot after pruning, and it is not because of disease or pests, you don’t need to remove the old soil.

3. Prepare the potting soil : Prepare a flowerpot that is larger than the original one and has good air permeability. The soil should be loose and well-drained. You can mix it with leaf mold, garden soil, river sand and an appropriate amount of perlite. You can also use peat soil, vermiculite and garden soil.

4. Plant in the pot : first put some pebbles at the bottom of the pot to enhance air permeability, then place the plant in the prepared soil, fill the soil after the roots are stretched out, and do not leave any gaps. After filling, press the soil around it, water it thoroughly, and finally place it in a cool and ventilated place.

Maintenance of Kalanchoe after repotting

After repotting the Kalanchoe, it must be placed in a cool, ventilated environment, away from direct sunlight. After potting, water it thoroughly once. Wait until the roots adapt to the new environment and grow new buds or true leaves, then place it in an environment with sufficient light. Maintain soil moisture, and do a good job of drainage and waterlogging prevention during the rainy season.
