How to prune jasmine

Jasmine pruning time

Jasmine will undergo three major prunings in three periods. It needs to be pruned once during the spring growing season, and once after the flowering period ends, which is around August-September. Finally, it needs to be pruned once during the dormant period, which is before the arrival of spring.

After the first pruning, jasmine can help it grow and develop faster, while the second pruning can help it recover faster from the weak period after flowering. As for the third pruning, it can make it grow stronger.

How to prune jasmine

1. Pruning during the spring growing season

During the spring growing season, jasmine grows very fast, especially the branches. If they are not pruned in time, they will grow in a disorderly manner. Therefore, thinning is necessary at this time, and some of the denser branches should be properly pruned to ensure ventilation and lighting.

2. Pruning in early autumn during the flowering period

In early autumn, some flowers growing on the jasmine plant will gradually wither. Some of the remaining flowers will fall off naturally, while others will continue to remain on the plant and will continuously consume the nutrients of the plant, so they need to be cut off in time to avoid excessive consumption of nutrients.

3. Pruning during the late winter dormancy period

Jasmine plants need to be pruned in late winter. Some thin and overgrown branches need to be cut off to avoid hindering the growth and development of the plants in the spring and causing poor growth. After pruning, they need sufficient sunlight and moisture.
