When and how to plant cilantro

Coriander planting time

Coriander can be planted all year round, but the best time is March-April in spring and September in autumn, because the best temperature for coriander growth is between 15-20 degrees. It is difficult for coriander to germinate when the temperature is below 15 degrees, and it will affect the quality of coriander when the temperature is above 20 degrees.

Coriander Planting Methods

1. Seed selection and land preparation

Before planting coriander, it is best to choose a small-leaf variety with good cold resistance. This kind of coriander has a stronger fragrance and better quality. The soil can be mixed with sand and garden soil, and then deep plowing is carried out to a depth of about 25 centimeters. Add decomposed farmyard manure as base fertilizer during deep plowing.

2. Soak the seeds

Coriander seeds must be processed before sowing. Soak the coriander seeds in warm water for about 2 days, or soak them in a carbendazim solution for about 20 minutes. Take them out and rinse them with clean water. Let the seeds dry naturally, and then they can be germinated and sown.

3. Germination and sowing

Place the coriander seeds on a moist paper towel and provide an ambient temperature of 25 degrees. They will germinate in about 7 days. Plant the germinated seeds in the soil and water them thoroughly to help the coriander grow.

4. Light and temperature management

When the coriander seedlings grow leaves, they can be exposed to more sunlight. They should be guaranteed to receive about 5 hours of sunlight a day. When the midday sun is strong, they should be shaded. In terms of temperature, the surrounding temperature should be controlled between 18 and 22°C. When the temperature is too high, the surrounding air should be kept circulating.

Coriander planting precautions

Coriander likes a humid environment and usually needs to be watered every 2-3 days. Fertilizer should be applied three times during the growing period of coriander. Apply compound fertilizer once when the seedlings are about 7 cm tall, apply urea once when the seedlings are about 9 cm tall, and apply organic fertilizer once when the seedlings are about 13 cm tall.
