Cutting propagation method of fairy finger

Cutting propagation method of fairy finger

Cutting propagation - time

The best time for cuttings of fairy fingers is during the growing season, and the best time is April to May after the flowers fade.

Cutting propagation - soil substrate

For home cuttings, you can buy prepared cutting media, or you can use medium-coarse river sand, but you must rinse it with clean water several times before use. Do not use sea sand or river sand from saline-alkali areas as they are not suitable for the growth of flowers and plants.

Cutting propagation - water and fertilizer

After cuttings, place them in a cool place before they take root and water them sparingly. They will take root in about 20 days. After the flower buds are formed, the soil in the pot should not be too dry or too wet to prevent the flower buds from falling off.

During the growing period of the fairy finger, apply a thin organic liquid fertilizer once every 2 to 3 weeks, or apply a small amount of compound fertilizer.

Cutting propagation - specific methods

You can take stem nodes 1 to 4 or large branches with branches for cuttings. When grafting, do not let the wound get wet. Let it dry in a place away from direct sunlight for two or three days to allow the wound to heal.

After the wound has dried, insert the cuttings into the substrate and spray the cuttings and the substrate slightly wet. As long as the substrate is not too dry or waterlogged, roots and new shoots will grow quickly.

Although it is easy for the cactus to take root, its roots are thin and weak, and it cannot tolerate water and moisture, so its growth is poor. Therefore, it is often grafted onto other cactus plants with strong root systems to speed up its growth. Commonly used rootstocks include cactus, leaf cactus, prickly pear, and octopus.
