Apricot tree planting time and method

Apricot tree planting time

It is best to plant apricot trees in spring, specifically at the end of March, when the temperature is basically stable, which can increase the germination rate. It can also be planted at the end of November in autumn, but grafting propagation should be carried out in the later stage of sowing and planting, so that they can grow better and bear fruit.

Apricot tree planting method

1. Processing seeds

The seed shell of apricot tree is thick and relatively hard, so it needs to be soaked for germination before sowing. It can be soaked in hot water at about 80 degrees. Stir constantly during the period to avoid scalding the seeds. After the water temperature drops, there is no need to stir it anymore. After taking it out, rinse it once in 50-degree hot water. After germination, it can be sown.

2. Sowing method

When sowing, sow in ridges, one row at a time, and finally use the spot sowing method. This can ensure the growth space in the later stage. Usually, one seed is sown in a hole with a spacing of 10 cm between plants. After sowing, cover the soil in time, compact the soil, and water it thoroughly. If any seedlings are found not to emerge, replant them in time.

3. Late transplanting

After the seeds of apricot trees germinate, they can be transplanted when they grow to 50 cm. When transplanting, pay attention to controlling the spacing between plants and rows. It is best to have a spacing of 4 meters between plants and 4-5 meters between rows to ensure the growth space in the later stage. When transplanting, there is no need to dig a large hole. The seedlings are small, so cover the soil in time when planting, then cover the soil and water them to determine the roots.

Apricot tree planting precautions

When the new shoots of the apricot tree grow to about 15 meters, some quick-acting fertilizers can be applied. Usually, underground topdressing and foliar spraying are carried out alternately. In addition, if you want to increase the yield of the apricot tree, you must promptly cut off diseased and dead branches during the growth period, otherwise it will consume the nutrients of the apricot tree and cause the loss of the trunk.
