Red Lentil Planting Time and Method

Red Lentil Planting Time and Method

Red lentil planting time

Red lentils are grown in both the south and the north of my country, but the planting time is different. Usually, they are sown in the Yangtze River Basin from May to July, while in North China they are sown only in June. This plant likes a warm climate and usually germinates when the temperature is 20-25℃. It will develop poorly when the temperature is below 15℃.

How to grow red lentils

1. Select soil and apply fertilizer

Planting red lentils requires deep soil and good drainage. If the soil is not fertile enough, it needs to be supplemented with some farmyard manure. Generally, the ratio of farmyard manure to garden soil is 4:6. After that, the soil needs to be deeply plowed and leveled so that it can be planted. Before planting, you can spray some water to keep it at a certain humidity.

2. Sowing

In order to increase the germination rate of red lentils, germination is often required before sowing. The seeds are placed in a constant temperature box at 30 degrees, and then sown after they turn white. The seeds are sown in the soil and covered with 1-2 cm thick nutrient soil. After that, a layer of ground film should be covered to keep warm and moisturize, which will accelerate the rooting and germination of the seeds.

Red lentil planting precautions

After planting red lentils, they need to be carefully cared for. After germination, the temperature needs to be controlled. The daytime temperature should be controlled between 20-25℃, and the night temperature should be kept at around 15-20℃. If it exceeds 30℃, attention should be paid to ventilation and lowering the ambient temperature to prevent the plants from growing too tall. In addition, the humidity should be controlled at around 60-70%. If it is too wet, you can sprinkle some wood ash.
