When and how to plant kidney beans

When and how to plant kidney beans

Kidney bean planting time

Ground beans are suitable for growing in a relatively warm and humid environment, so the planting of ground beans can be carried out in March of spring or August and September of autumn. The temperature at this time is suitable for the germination and later growth of ground beans.

How to plant kidney beans

1. Prepare the soil

Before planting kidney beans, you need to choose suitable soil, such as humus soil or garden soil with rich organic matter content and good drainage. You can also loosen the soil before planting to improve the soil's air permeability.

2. Seeding and planting

Ground beans can be sown and planted. When planting, you need to choose seeds with full grains and free from diseases and insect pests, then put the seeds in the sun to dry and sterilize. Take them out after three days and sow them evenly in the prepared soil. Generally, 3-4 seeds can be selected for each hole, and seedlings will emerge in a week. If the weather temperature is low, you can also choose to cover the hole with film.

3. Field management

When the ground bean seedlings grow to about 30 cm, it is necessary to set up a trellis in time to promote the climbing of the ground bean plants. When they grow to about 50 cm, they should be topped in time to lower the height of the ground bean plants and increase the number of pods.

Precautions for planting kidney beans

1. Ground beans are fertilizer-loving plants. During the maintenance process, you can provide them with inorganic fertilizers rich in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium to increase the growth rate of the plants. You can also provide them with decomposed farmyard manure, green manure and other organic fertilizers to maintain their growth and make the plants grow more vigorously.

2. During the growing period, ground beans are easily harmed by diseases and pests such as anthracnose, rust, root rot, and aphids. Farmers should strengthen field inspections and take timely prevention and control measures once diseases and pests are found to avoid unnecessary losses.
