When and how to plant dandelions

Dandelion Planting Time

Dandelions are best sown in spring and autumn, usually from March to May, and autumn from August to October. The climate is mild and sunny at this time, and natural conditions can meet the needs of promoting seed germination and later growth. The survival rate is relatively high and easy to manage.

How to plant dandelions

1. Soil selection

Dandelions have strong adaptability to the environment and are not very demanding on the soil, but for better growth, you can choose fertile, loose, well-drained sandy soil, deep plow the soil before planting, apply sufficient base fertilizer, and water thoroughly before planting to keep the soil moist.

2. Seed treatment

If dandelions are planted in spring, the seeds need to be soaked in 50-degree warm water for 24 hours. After being taken out, they are placed on a wet towel and left naturally for about two days before being planted. If sown in autumn, there is no need for germination and they can be sown directly.

3. Post-management

After planting dandelions, water them in time to keep the soil moist. Apply base fertilizer before planting and apply fertilizer 1-2 times per season during the growth process. You can use decomposed organic fertilizer. Dandelions can be transplanted after they grow new leaves.

Dandelion planting precautions

After the dandelions emerge, thinning, transplanting, tillage and weeding should be carried out. The first thinning should be carried out about 10 days after emergence, and the plant spacing should be controlled at about 43 cm. The seedlings can be transplanted after one month, with a plant spacing of about 9 cm. The plant spacing for sowing is 5 cm. The soil should be kept moist before emergence, and after emergence, the soil should also be kept moist at all times.
