Introduction to loquat planting

Loquat likes warm and moist environment. It can grow in places with an annual average temperature above 12 degrees, and places above 15 degrees are more suitable. The loquat sowing period is from late May to early June. The lifespan of loquat trees is relatively long, and generally a loquat tree can live for 50 years.

Loquat is produced in Gansu, Shaanxi, Henan, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian, and Taiwan. Loquat varieties include Baisha loquat, Jiefangzhong, Luoyangqing, Dongting loquat, Guangrong, and Zaozhong No. 6.

Loquat planting results

The fruiting time of loquat trees is closely related to external factors. They usually bloom from October to December and bear fruit from May to June of the second year. Well-managed loquat trees will bear fruit in three years, enter the peak fruiting period in 10 years, and the peak fruiting period is 20 to 40 years. The economic life of loquat trees can reach 30 to 70 years.

Loquat trees prefer an environment with plenty of sunlight and are suitable for maintenance in sunny places. They usually bloom from October to December. During the flowering period, they can be artificially pollinated or bee pollinated to increase the fruit yield. If they are pruned in time during the growth period, more loquat branches can be inserted, the flowering and fruiting rate can be increased, and picking can be more convenient. Fertilization should also be done in time, and pest and disease control should be done well.

Grafted loquat blooms and bears fruit

Loquat trees are suitable for grafting in spring or autumn. Cut branches from excellent fruit trees with a length of 3-4 cm. Tilt and flatten the bottom, then align it with the cambium of the rootstock and wrap it with plastic film. Loquat trees usually take more than 3 years to grow before they will bloom and bear fruit.

Potted loquat fruiting

Potted loquats generally bloom in autumn. Potted loquats are light-loving and drought-tolerant. They can be grown on a well-ventilated balcony. Water them thoroughly when the soil is dry. Top dressing is very important, which can promote the flowering and fruiting of the plants.

Why don't loquats bear fruit?

There are many reasons why loquats do not bear fruit, such as too many rainy days during the flower bud differentiation period, insufficient fertilizer and water, untimely pruning, serious damage from pests and diseases, etc., all of which will cause loquats to bear few or no fruits.

Characteristics of loquat planting

When planting loquats, you should choose sandy loam with high humidity, good light, loose soil texture, strong water and fertilizer retention, and a soil pH value of 6-6.5. Since loquats are not tolerant to waterlogging, the groundwater level in the orchard should be low, with good drainage and good air permeability to facilitate the growth of loquats.

The root system of loquat is relatively shallow and has weak wind resistance. When planting loquat, you should avoid wind outlets. The flower bud differentiation of loquat is in early autumn. Drought is prone to occur in this season. Slight soil drought is beneficial to the differentiation of loquat flower buds, but excessive drought will have an adverse effect.
