How often should I change the water for my lucky bamboo?

How often should I change the water for my lucky bamboo?

1. Frequency of water changes

1. Rooting period

We call the period from the time the purchased lucky bamboo is processed and placed in the vase until its new roots grow out the rooting period. This period usually lasts 15-30 days until roots emerge from the base of the stem.

During this period, we need to change the water more frequently to prevent its roots from rotting. Specifically, you can change the water every 2-3 days.

2. Maturity

Compared with the rooting period, we call the time after the roots of hydroponic lucky bamboo exceed 1 cm the maturity period.

During this period, we do not need to change the water too frequently, otherwise it will cause yellow leaves. When changing the water, you don’t need to change all of it, just change half and keep the other half. Specifically, you can change the water every 10 days or so. In addition, special attention should be paid to the fact that water will evaporate normally, so it should be replenished in time.

3. Special circumstances

In the summer when the temperature is higher, we can change the water every week; in the winter when the temperature is lower, we can change the water every two weeks or even three weeks.

In addition, if you find that the water in the vase has become turbid, it means that the water can no longer meet its growth requirements, and you need to change the water in time. In this case, there is no need to set aside half of the water and add new water. Instead, all the original water needs to be replaced with new water.

2. Water selection

It is best to choose purified water for breeding. If conditions do not permit, you can also choose tap water. But it should be noted that there will be residual disinfecting gas in the tap water. We need to prepare it the day before use and put it in the sun to allow the gas to evaporate.

3. The amount of water added

For hydroponics, do not put too much water in the bottle. Generally, the water can reach 1/3-1/2 of the height of the vase.

The specific amount can be adjusted according to your own situation. Just make the water level 2-3 cm higher than the highest point of its roots.
