When and how to plant beets

When and how to plant beets

Beet planting time

Beet is grown in different regions and the sowing time varies. The suitable sowing period for beets is mostly in April. Production practice shows that early sowing at the right time can extend the growing period of beets, which is also an important measure to obtain high yield and high sugar content.

How to grow beets

1. Site selection and land preparation

Beet is suitable for planting on fertile, flat and well-drained soil. When tilling the land, deep plowing and shallow turning are required. The deep plowing should reach 35 cm to break the bottom layer of the plow, make the soil layer loose, and avoid dry layers and large clods of soil.

2. Selection and processing of improved varieties

You should choose high-quality, high-yield, stress-resistant and high-sugar varieties. Before sowing, the seeds need to be placed in the sun for 2-3 days to increase the germination rate, and then soaked in methyl thiocyclophosphate solution for 24-36 hours, which can effectively prevent and control insect pests in the seedling stage.

3. Planting seeds

Sow the prepared seeds into the soil and press them down in time after sowing. This will allow the seeds to be in close contact with the soil, thereby facilitating the rise of moisture in the lower layer of the soil. Then water them thoroughly to keep the soil moist.

Beet planting precautions

Before beet seeds germinate, pay attention to check the germination and germination of the seeds. When they grow 4 to 6 pairs of true leaves, they can be transplanted. When transplanting, they must be watered, planted straight and without roots, to ensure that the seedlings are not buried. After planting, the seedlings must be covered with soil all around.
