Lettuce planting time and method

Lettuce planting time

Lettuce has strong adaptability to the environment and can actually be sown all year round. If it is sown in spring from February to March, it not only has a high survival rate but also germinates quickly. Lettuce can also be sown in summer from June to July, but the temperature at this time is higher and the germination rate is relatively low, so it needs to be shaded. It can also be grown in a place with scattered light.

Lettuce can also be sown in August and September in autumn, but shade is still needed. The survival rate of autumn sowing is higher than that of summer sowing. It can be sown in winter from October to November. The ambient temperature should be controlled at around 15 degrees, and sufficient light should be provided.

Lettuce planting method

1. Soaking and germination

Before sowing lettuce, it is necessary to prepare for germination. You can soak the seeds in clean water for about 2 hours, then wrap the soaked seeds with a wet cloth, drip a few drops of water every day, and wait for about 3 to 5 days, the seeds will take root.

2. Slightly acidic soil

Lettuce has very strict requirements on soil. It needs loose soil, high fertility, strong water and fertilizer retention, and slightly acidic soil. If you prepare it yourself, you can choose a mixture of garden soil, leaf mold, and coarse sand as the substrate for lettuce.

3. Planting and sowing

Before sowing lettuce, you can loosen the soil to improve permeability, then sow the treated seeds in the soil, water to keep the soil moist, and it is best to control the temperature at around 15-20 degrees so that the lettuce can germinate faster.

Lettuce planting precautions

After sowing lettuce, it needs to be watered in time to ensure the moisture of the soil, especially when sowing in summer. It is also necessary to regularly deal with the weeds around the lettuce, and apply compound fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium once every 15-20 days to promote better growth of lettuce seedlings.
