When is the best time to repot the keel? Time and season for repotting

Keel repotting time

The dragon bone plant needs to be repotted so that the roots can stretch better, which is conducive to the vigorous growth of the plant. If you want to repot the dragon bone flower, it is recommended to do it in spring. The climate at this time is mild and has less impact on the dragon bone flower. In addition, spring is the season for the dragon bone to resume growth, so repotting can also allow the dragon bone flower to adapt to the pot as soon as possible and adjust to the growth state as soon as possible.

Keel repotting method

1. Prepare the flower pot

The flowerpot for planting dragon bones does not need to be too big, as its root system is not particularly developed. Prepare a flowerpot of appropriate size, soak it in clean water for a day and night, scrub it clean, and place it aside to dry for later use.

2. Prepare the soil

Before planting the dragon bone flower in a pot, you need to prepare suitable soil. It can be prepared by mixing peat soil, river sand and other proportions. After preparation, disinfect and sterilize it first to remove the bacteria and insect eggs inside. Disinfection and sterilization can be done by exposure to the sun, or by watering with carbendazim water or potassium permanganate water.

3. Remove the pot and prune the roots

After preparing the flowerpot and soil, it is time to take the dragon bone flower out of the pot. Before removing it from the pot, you must control the humidity in the pot. It should not be too wet, otherwise the soil will stick and it will be difficult to remove it from the pot. After taking the dragon bone flower out, you can remove the old soil on the outside, being careful not to damage the roots, and then trim the old and dead roots.

4. Planting in pots

Place a layer of broken tiles at the bottom of the new flowerpot, then fill the pot with the prepared soil, plant the keel flower in it, compact the soil slightly, water the pot thoroughly, and place it in a cool and ventilated place to slow down the growth of the seedlings.

Notes on keel repotting

After the dragon bone plant is repotted, it needs to be cared for and maintained. It should not be exposed to strong light, but moved to a well-ventilated semi-shaded place for maintenance. No fertilizer is needed at this time. After the seedling-acclimatization period of the Jade Leaf is over in about 7-15 days, normal maintenance can be carried out.
