Boxwood repotting time

Boxwood needs to be repotted, usually every 2-3 years. It is necessary to repot it in time when the nutrients in the soil are almost consumed. The best time is before germination in early spring. At this time, the plant is still in a dormant period and its life activities are not obvious. If the pot is repotted, the impact on the boxwood will be small. After a simple acclimatization, it will basically not affect the growth of the boxwood.

Boxwood repotting method

1. Soil

In order to achieve a good repotting effect for boxwood and to facilitate its growth, you must first choose a more suitable soil. Boxwood is suitable for planting in loose, breathable, slightly acidic soil. When repotting, you can use humus soil, garden soil and river sand to prepare it. You must also change to a larger flowerpot, which is conducive to the boxwood stretching its roots.

2. Remove from the basin

Before repotting the boxwood, control the water appropriately to facilitate the removal of the soil. After the soil is removed, remove one-third to one-half of the old soil without damaging the roots. Prune the rotten and messy roots, and pay attention to disinfection after pruning.

3. Put it in the basin

After the boxwood root system is treated, it can be potted. Note that after potting, you need to compact the soil to allow the roots and soil to be tightly combined together. Then water it thoroughly, place it in a place with visible scattered light and weak light, and do simple seedling acclimatization treatment.

Notes on boxwood repotting

After repotting, the boxwood needs to be maintained in a semi-shaded, well-ventilated place. After it starts to resume growth, it is time to carry out spring management. You can apply a small amount of decomposed organic fertilizer mixed with some nitrogen fertilizer to encourage the sprouting of new branches and buds. It also needs to see more mild spring sunshine to receive the nourishment of the sun.
