When is the best time to repot cymbidium and what should be paid attention to when repotting

Cymbidium orchid repotting time

Cymbidium needs to be repotted, and the potting soil should be changed every 1-2 years. The time for repotting is generally chosen in spring and autumn when the climate is suitable. It can be chosen in spring when germination is strong, or in autumn after flowering. Repotting at the right time can help resume growth and maintain vigorous growth momentum in the later period.

How to repot cymbidium

1. Remove the pot

Before removing the cymbidium from the pot, you can dry it out and keep the soil a little drier to make it easier to remove from the pot. Carefully take the cymbidium out of the pot, being careful not to damage the roots. Keep the root system intact and remove the old soil from the roots. If there are signs of root rot, trim them off in time and place them in a cool place to dry for 1-2 days.

2. Prepare the soil

Before repotting the cymbidium, you need to prepare a pot of suitable size. The bottom and sides of the pot must have many holes to maintain good air permeability and ensure smooth drainage. The cultivation soil can be leaf mold mixed with bark, fern roots, etc., which can facilitate water infiltration and drainage.

3. Planting in pots

Spread charcoal or expanded clay at the bottom of the cymbidium flowerpot, fill the pot with the prepared soil, and then plant the cymbidium plant into the soil so that the substrate is filled and fits the roots tightly.

Precautions for repotting cymbidium

After repotting the Cymbidium, it can be placed in a bright place to receive sufficient scattered light. If the light intensity is high, it should be shaded. The ambient temperature should be kept above 15 degrees. When the air is dry, spray water to maintain good humidity, and it will soon resume growth.
