How to keep seeds of water spinach and how to plant water spinach

Method of keeping seeds of water spinach

Water spinach is a common vegetable, also known as water iodine. Its seeds grow inside its fruit. The seeds are densely covered with short soft hairs. However, the plant has strict requirements for seed production. If it is not properly maintained, it will not produce seeds.

Water spinach seeds usually mature around September and October. If you want to save seeds, it is best to choose those water spinach varieties that can bloom and bear fruit normally in the local area, and then leave the seeds after they mature, dry them and store them.

Water spinach seed propagation

Water spinach can be propagated by seeds. The best time to sow it is around May every year. If it is grown in a greenhouse, it can be grown all year round. If the maintenance environment is suitable, it will germinate in about 5-7 days.

How to plant water spinach seeds

1. Choose the soil

When sowing water spinach, be sure to choose an area with flat terrain and convenient irrigation, then turn over and harrow the soil, clean up the debris, and apply sufficient base fertilizer.

2. Seed germination

Before sowing water spinach, soak the seeds in 30℃ water for about 6-7 hours, and then sow them after the seed coat softens.

3. Sowing

After preparation, you can start sowing. About 2 kilograms of seeds can be sown per acre of land. The seeds should be sown evenly. Just pay attention to regular watering in the later stage.
