What to do if dahlia root rots

Dahlia root rot – soil problem

If dahlias suffer from root rot, it may be due to problems with the soil.

When growing dahlias, you need loose sandy soil and avoid using heavy clay. If heavy clay is used, it will cause poor growth of dahlias and even root rot.

When growing dahlias, if you find root rot, you can observe the soil. If the soil is sticky, you need to replace the potting soil. You can replace it with a mixed matrix of leaf mold, garden soil, and river sand. It is best to change the pot in the spring every year.

Dahlia root rot - watering problem

When watering dahlias, if you water too much or the soil has poor drainage, the soil will appear very moist and even have water accumulation. This situation can easily lead to root rot of dahlias.

When watering dahlias, two tasks need to be done: one is drainage and the other is watering. Drainage means that when you plant dahlias in pots, you can put some broken tiles at the bottom of the pot, or add a layer of drainage. Watering should be done scientifically, following the principle of not watering unless the soil is dry and watering thoroughly when watering. Be careful not to accumulate water and avoid root rot while meeting the growth needs of dahlias.

Dahlia root rot - fertilization problem

Root rot of dahlias due to improper fertilization mainly refers to the root burn caused by over-fertilization of dahlias.

When growing dahlias, you need to apply fertilizer thinly and frequently, and avoid using unrotted fertilizers or overly concentrated fertilizers, which will cause root burn and rot.

For fertilization, you can add some base fertilizer when potting. During the growth period, apply thin fertilizer water every 10 days or so, and apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers during the flowering period.

When applying fertilizer, basically ensure that it is applied thinly and frequently to avoid root rot.
