What month is suitable for planting cherry trees?

When to plant cherry trees

The planting method of cherry trees is very simple. They like a warm and humid growing environment. They can be planted in March in spring or in October in autumn. The survival rate of cherry trees planted in these two time periods is higher. Note that when the temperature is low, take measures to keep warm.

Cherry tree harvest time

It takes three years for cherries to bear fruit from planting. If grafting is used, the time will be shortened. Cherries mature around May to July. Early-maturing varieties are harvested and put on the market in May, while late-maturing varieties have to wait until July to be put on the market.

Cherry tree planting methods and key points

1. Soil

Cherry trees are suitable for planting in neutral soil that is deep, loose, fertile and well-drained. This kind of soil can allow the seeds to germinate faster. Before sowing, the soil should be deeply turned over and sufficient base fertilizer should be applied, so that the number of fertilizations can be reduced in the later stage.

2. Seeding and germination

Choose good quality cherry seeds and sow them into the soil. The seeds of the cherry tree are relatively large, so they can be covered with a 3 cm thick layer of soil. The ambient temperature should be controlled at around 20 degrees. Wait for about a month and the seeds will germinate.

3. Management work

After sowing the seeds of the cherry tree, you can water them every three days to keep the soil moist. After waiting for them to take root and sprout, apply quick-acting fertilizer every 15 days to help the cherry tree seedlings grow. Also, give them sufficient light to prevent them from growing too tall.
