How to save sword bean seeds

Sword bean is a plant of the legume family. Its seeds generally grow in its pods. Generally, we wait until the plant matures and then select mature and plump pods for seed preservation.

After the sword beans mature naturally, choose the large and plump pods near the roots and pick them. These are usually the first to produce. After picking them, dry them and then remove the seed coat to get the seeds.

Sword bean seed propagation

The sword bean plant can be propagated by seeds. It needs to be germinated before sowing. The sowing time can be chosen in February-March in spring or May-July in summer. If the environment is suitable, it will germinate 3-4 days after planting.

How to plant sword bean seeds

1. Land preparation and fertilization

Before sowing sword bean seeds, ridges and furrows need to be made, with each ridge about 30 cm wide. Afterwards, a certain amount of base fertilizer needs to be applied, and livestock manure can be used.

2. Sowing

The seed coat of sword bean is very hard. Before sowing, it must be soaked in water to germinate, and then sown in holes. After sowing, cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil and then water them thoroughly.

3. Scaffolding

It is necessary to build a trellis when the sword bean seedlings grow to about 40 cm. The purpose is to allow them to have more sufficient growth space so that the plants can grow healthily.
