Podocarpus can be grown by cuttings, and cuttings are also one of the methods of propagating Podocarpus. As long as you cut suitable cuttings, choose the right time, and use the correct method for cuttings, the rooting survival rate of Podocarpus will be greatly improved.

The cut branches of Podocarpus can survive if directly inserted into the soil, but the survival rate is relatively low. It is best to soak them in a solution of carbendazim and rooting water, and prepare a loose and fertile sand bed to insert the Podocarpus cuttings into the soil.

Before taking cuttings of Podocarpus, you must choose the right time. Its peak growth period is in spring and autumn, so it can be done in spring and autumn, specifically from May to July or August to September. This will not only ensure fast rooting and germination, but also a very high survival rate.

1. Cut branches

Cut healthy branches that are free of pests and diseases from the Podocarpus plant, about 10 cm in length, with more nodes on them. Then soak the branches in a mixed solution of carbendazim and rooting powder for 2 hours. After taking them out, place them in a well-ventilated place to dry. This can not only disinfect and sterilize, but also promote rooting of the branches.

2. Matrix Preparation

If Podocarpus cuttings are planted in suitable soil, the rooting speed will be accelerated. It likes to grow in loose, breathable and well-drained soil. It can be evenly mixed with five parts of leaf mold, three parts of garden soil and two parts of sandy soil. After the preparation, the soil should be thoroughly disinfected and sterilized.

3. Cutting medium

After the Podocarpus branches are dried, they can be cut into the prepared soil, with the depth maintained at one-half or one-third. Water them slightly to keep the soil moist and keep them in a cool environment. Roots will grow in about a month.
