What are the cultivation methods and precautions of butterfly plum

Growth habits of butterfly plum

Butterfly plum likes a moist, high temperature and ventilated environment. It likes shade, is afraid of strong light, and is not cold-resistant. When it is cultivated indoors, it should be placed in a place with scattered light, keep the environment ventilated, and keep the soil slightly moist. As for the culture soil, it is best to use loose, fertile, air-permeable and well-drained sandy soil.

Butterfly plum cultivation method

Soil: It is best to replace it with loose, fertile, breathable and well-drained sandy soil. This kind of soil is more conducive to the butterfly plum to absorb nutrients, so that it can bloom more and more beautiful flowers.

Light: Butterfly plum likes shade and does not require much light. When grown indoors, place it in a place with scattered light and receive partial light. However, around the flowering period of butterfly plum, proper light can encourage it to bloom brighter flowers.

Temperature: The most suitable growth temperature is 16-30℃. However, if the temperature exceeds 32℃, the plant will enter a semi-dormant state. The room temperature in winter cannot be lower than 13℃.

Watering: Water frequently on a daily basis. Generally speaking, keep the soil in the pot moist. When the weather is too dry, water it once every 2 to 3 days.

Fertilization: Butterfly plum likes fertilizer and should be fertilized throughout the year. Fertilization should not be stopped unless the low temperature lasts for a long time.

Precautions for breeding butterfly plum

Pruning and repotting: The flower branches should be removed immediately after the flowers fade to avoid consuming nutrients, which is conducive to the development and flowering of new flower branches. In addition, the butterfly plum that has been potted for 3 to 4 years generally needs to have the soil renewed, usually in September.

Pests and diseases: The main pests are scale insects and aphids, and the main diseases are powdery mildew, sooty mold and brown spot disease. Their appearance will affect the health and appearance of butterfly plum, so once discovered, they should be controlled by spraying pesticides according to the common pest and disease control methods of butterfly plum.
