How to grow Epiphyllum so that it blooms

Epiphyllum flowering time

Epiphyllum mainly blooms in summer and autumn, specifically from June to October. It usually blooms after 8-9 o'clock in the evening and blooms for about 3 to 5 hours. After that, the corolla will close and the flowers will wither quickly. The blooming time is very short.

How to grow and bloom Epiphyllum

1. Topdressing with nitrogen fertilizer

Epiphyllum consumes more nutrients during flowering. If the base fertilizer in the soil is insufficient, appropriate topdressing is needed. Therefore, dilute nitrogen fertilizer can be applied every 15 days. If it is in the budding stage, a certain amount of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer can be applied to promote flowering.

2. Keep the soil moist

If you want the Epiphyllum to bloom, you need to keep the soil moist. Generally, water it every three days. In winter, you can water it once every week. This way the roots can absorb enough nutrients and reduce fertilizer damage.

3. Prune the main branches

The main branches can be pruned during the growth period of Epiphyllum, and the pruning length can be between 5 and 10 cm. It is best to do it in the warm spring, which can promote the germination of side branches. During this period, fertilizer and water should be applied, and Epiphyllum will easily bloom.

4. Ventilation and maintenance

Epiphyllum likes a well-ventilated environment. Fresh air is conducive to the differentiation of flower buds of the plant. From June to October each year, the plant is in the flowering period, so it is best to place it outdoors at this stage to promote flowering. It is also necessary to water the leaves regularly to maintain a certain humidity environment.

5. Prevent pests

When caring for Epiphyllum, you need to pay attention to preventing pests, otherwise the pests will feed on the flower buds and affect the flowering of the flowers. Therefore, it is very important to prevent pests. You can spray insect repellent every 30 days to reduce the growth of bacteria and promote flowering.
