How to grow irises so they bloom

Iris flowering time

Iris mainly blooms in spring, and some varieties bloom earlier. Such early-flowering irises can bloom in March and April, and usually bloom in May. At this time, there are many flowers and they are very lush. The flowering time is related to the temperature. The flowering period can last for about twenty days when it is long, and for 7-10 days when it is short. The flowers look like flying butterflies and have rich colors.

How to grow irises and make them bloom

1. Temperature: Iris prefers a warm environment and is not cold-resistant or high-temperature resistant. The ambient temperature should not be too high during the growth period. During the flowering period, the temperature is best kept at around 17 degrees, which can effectively extend the flowering period.

2. Sunlight: Iris is a light-loving plant, but can tolerate semi-shady environments. It must be provided with sufficient light during the growth period. After flowering, it cannot be kept in a place that is too dark, nor can it be exposed to strong light, which will damage the delicate petals. Generally, bright scattered light is sufficient.

3. Humidity: Iris is a moisture-loving plant, but it is not tolerant to waterlogging. Keep the soil moist during the growth period. After it blooms, you can water it appropriately, but control the amount of water. Do not allow water to accumulate. If the environment is dry, spray water appropriately to keep it moist.

4. Soil: Iris has strong adaptability to the environment. As long as the soil has good drainage and a certain humidity is maintained, it can grow vigorously. Some fast-growing irises need loose and fertile soil. If it is in heavy soil, you can add some peat, vermiculite or coarse sand.
